The football Bundesliga
The Bundesliga is the top-tier football league in Germany, with a name that roughly translates to “Federal League” in English. It is one of the biggest leagues in the world and has the biggest average stadium attendance of all major leagues, with Borussia Dortmund being one of the most supported clubs based on average attendance. There are 18 teams in this league to bet on, with the top four given access to the Champions League and the 5th and 6th finishers entered into the Europa League. The bottom two teams in the Bundesliga are relegated to the second tier, where their positions are essentially swapped with the teams that finish first and second in the Bundesliga 2. The team that finishes 16th in the Bundesliga enter a play-off with the team that finishes third in the Bundesliga 2. This match is contested over 2 legs and gives the top-tier team a second chance to retain their position. You might expect the lower-tier team to be at a disadvantage in this format, and you’d be right. Between 2013 and 2018 all 6 play-offs were won by the existing Bundesliga team, with both Hamburg and Wolfsburg saving themselves for two years in a row. This run came to an end in 2019 when Union Berlin scraped past VfB Stuttgart.

Bundesliga Teams and Players
Bayern Munich has dominated the Bundesliga in recent years, but they are far from the only top-class team in this league. There are many world-beaters here and as evidenced by recent performances in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, German teams are a force to be reckoned with. In the 10 years between 2009 and 2019, the boys from Bayern won 8 out of 10 titles, with the other two going to their fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund are often considered to be Bayern’s biggest rival, but this wasn’t always the case. In 1977 Borussia Mönchengladbach won their 5th title, which was 1 more than Bayern. In the 1980s, Hamburger SV also gave Bayern a good run for their money, but by the 2000s the Munich team had taken over and begun their era of dominance. The Bundesliga has hosted many of the world’s best players over the years, including Gerd Müller, who is considered one of the most prolific strikers ever, and Robert Lewandowski, who has tallied a huge number of goals for both Dortmund and Bayern Munich. The league also saw the best from Arjen Robben, Oliver Khan, Lothar Matthäus, Michael Ballack, Jupp Heynckes, and Franz Beckenbauer.
